How to Speed

How to Speed
up vBulletin by removing adverts/banners/animations etc with special thanks
to LMB, Nathan and Dave Lear.
On 56 k
dial-up I found that it was difficult and clumsy at times and required
several refresh attempts from my browser to access the pages.
However
you can help speed up the way that the pages load by doing the following
to help in particular those who are using 56k modem or less.
Open notepad
and add the following text (only the stuff between the lines below) :

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP stack for Windows98
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1
localhost
127.0.0.1 ad.tiscali.com
127.0.0.1 ad.uk.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 tiscaliplus.weborama.fr

Now save
the document to your c:\windows folder with the name hosts
(ensuring that you remove the extension .txt from the saved filename i.e.
correct name is hosts
incorrect name is hosts.txt
If this
does not work clear all temporary internet files, cache etc and reboot
and try again. If you have any other hosts files in your windows directories
add the following to it :
127.0.0.1
ad.tiscali.com
127.0.0.1 ad.uk.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 tiscaliplus.weborama.fr
Reboot and
re-open a vBulletin forum and the ads should be gone :-)
