Ftp Access Via Internet Explorer by Karl Davis
Sometimes it is convenient to upload files via a ftp program. If you find that you cannot for a variety of reasons, which may include ftp setup, firewall access or when a web provider has said that you can only access your various webspace accounts via there own dial-up, try the following ways below as they have been tested and do work.Recent changes have however been implemented by Tiscali so that you must be dialed in with a Tiscali dial-up for this to work. Lineone Sites Access Lineone website e.g. http://website.lineone.net/~karl-davis/ Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type : ftp://ftp.website.lineone.net and press [Enter] You will get the error box that says it cant access it. Click on ok Then go to drop-down menu : FILE/Login As Then enter
your full email addy as the username Tiscali Sites Access Tiscali website e.g. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/karldavis/ Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type : ftp://ftp.myweb.tiscali.co.uk and press [Enter] You will get the error box that says it cant access it. Click on ok Then go to drop-down menu : FILE/Login As Then enter
your full email addy as the username UkOnline Sites Access UkOnline website e.g. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/karl.davis/ Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type : ftp://karl.davis@web.ukonline.co.uk/ and press [Enter] where karl.davis is the username substitute it for your own username. In the login box that appears type your password and then click "Login" All the website files should appear and you can now copy, cut and paste files direct to your ftp webspace. NTL Sites Access NTL website e.g. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karl.davis2/ Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type : ftp://upload.ntlworld.com/ and press [Enter] You will get the error box that says it cant access it. Click on ok Then go to drop-down menu : FILE/Login As Then enter your full username and password then click "Logon" All the website files should appear and you can now copy, cut and paste files direct to your ftp webspace. Basically all you have to do is go to the edges of your screen while Internet Explorer is open and you will see that directional arrows appear, just drag it towards the middle of your screen and let go and you should have half your screen now being used by Internet Explorer. Then repeat the process with Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder that contains your web files. I have uploaded
an example here : My ftp site is on left and my Windows Explorer hard drive folder that contains my files is on the right and all you do then is select the folder, with your left mouse and hold it and drag the mouse to the opposite window on the right that you want to copy to or replace existing files etc. In the example shown I have my local hard drive folder with my website files on the right and the file is high-lighted that I wish to copy to my Ukonline ftp site. After I have dragged it over to the right window, which is clearly visible, I would release the mouse button and that file is then uploaded onto the ftp site.
